Skate Class

Our goal is to create lifelong skaters! We believe skating is for everyone, and Skate Class will help all new skaters improve their abilities to get rolling with confidence!

Class Format

Skate Class is a progressive series of 4 classes offered weekly, spanning a total of 4 weeks. We offer a Wednesday evening series and a Saturday morning series. The instruction of each class is catered to the skill of the skaters who attend. So, while we have overall goals and objectives to each class, we also personalize the content for each student.

Our goal is first to get students comfortable standing on their skates. The core of this concept is to teach balance and center of gravity. Once students feel comfortable standing, we progress to shifting weight, which is the start of skating in strides. Students will practice first walking, or marching, on their skates. These two aspects – standing and marching – are the basic components of skating.

After these basics, the sky is the limit! Depending on student comfortability, we will cover striding, backward skating, turning, and stopping. The skills learned in these classes will lend themselves to other skating disciplines like speed skating, hockey, derby and freestyle skating. We will help get students started by introducing them to the skills involved in these dynamics activities!

After class, each student gets free admission to the public session following class. This gives students extra practice on the skills they just learned.

How Do I Sign Up?

Start by choosing the series (or set of 4 classes) that best matches your schedule. Series are offered multiple times throughout the year to accomodate other sports, clubs, work, or obligations our customers may have.

Next, you choose either the Wednesday 5:15-6pm series or the Saturday 9:15-10am series. This will be the class time you attend each week for the 4 weeks of classes. However, if you have a scheduling conflict during the series that prevents you from attending class on your day, you may have the option to attend the other day that skate class is offered that week.
